Piotr Paleczny

Piotr Paleczny is one of the most eminent Polish pianists. Graduated from the Music Academy in Warsaw in the class of prof. Jan Ekier.
Prizewinner at five international piano competitions, those in Sofia [1968], Munich[1969], Warsaw[1970], Pleven [1972] and Bordeaux [1972]. Since the success achieved at the 8th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition, has been engaged in concerts activities on all the continents.
Was appearing as soloist with such internationally renowned orchestras as Warsaw National Philharmonic, National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, American Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Concrtgebouw, BBC London, Gewandhaus, Tonhalle Zurich, Yomiuri Nippon, RAI Roma, Santa Cecilia, Mexico National, Buenos Aires National, National Orchestra Madrid. Piotr Paleczny has been appearing in famous concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Royal Festival Hall in London and Tonhalle in Zurich.
Has been holding master classes in Bordeaux, Amsterdam, Paris, Buenos Aires,Paris, Tokyo, Lugano, Mexico City and Warsaw. He sat many times on the jury ofinternational piano competitions in Warsaw [Chopin], Paris, Santander, Tokyo,Hamamatsu, Prague, Taipei, Cleveland, London, Geneve, Los Angeles and Moscow.
Piotr Paleczny made numerous disc recordings for various recording companiessuch as "Polskie Nagrania", "EMI", "BBC Classic", "Naxos", "Pony Canyon", "CDAccord", "Olympia", "Wifon", "BeArTon", "Sound", "DUX".
Concerts of music - mainly by Polish composers, are significant part of his repertoire.Particulary highly regarded have been his recordings of concertos by F.Chopin[Pony Canyon], Ignacy Jan Paderewski [Sound], Witold Lutoslawski [Naxos] andKarol Szymanowski's "Concerto"- Symphony No.4 [EMI and BBC Classic]. Two of hisChopin CD's - complete Ballades and Piano Concertos - recorded with SinfoniaVarsovia and Jerzy Maksymiuk /BeArTon/, received status of the "Gold Disc". Anotherrecent recording - "The best of Chopin" /DUX/ - has been awarded the "Frederic'99" prize by the Polish Phonographic Academy. In December 2002 this CD achievedstatus of the "Platinum Disc". He is the only pianist who recorded and performedon stage, the new version of F. Chopin Piano Concertos, based on the recentlybeing released National Edition.
Piotr Paleczny was invited to be a soloist of the extraordinary Gala Concertto commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since 1993 he has been the Artistic Director of the oldest music festival heldin Poland - the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój.
Recipient of the number of Polish and foreign distinctions granted to him inrecognition of his outstanding artistic achievements. In 1998 the President ofPoland has conferred on him title of Professor.
He conducts the piano class at the Frederick Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.

Professor Zhou Guangren, China
Zhou Guangren
Zhou Guangren, who was born in Hannover, Germany, of Chinese Parents, began her piano studies in Shanghai with Ding Shande, Mario Paci, Alfred Marcus and Bela Belai. She subsequently studied at the Central Conservatory of Music with Aram Tatulian from Moscow. Her career as a concert pianist started at an early age, when she was invited to play with the Shanghai Municipal Orchestra, the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing and with the Dresden Symphony Orchestra. She was the first Chinese pianist to be awarded prizes in international piano competitions, during the World Youth Peace Festival in Berlin 1951 and during the Schumann Competition in Zwickau, 1956.
Since 1955, she has been a member of the piano faculty of the Central Conservatoryof Music in Beijing and has served as Chairman of the Piano Department from 1986-1992.
A frequently sought after adjudicator in major international piano competitionsin the USA, France, Norway, Chile, Israel, England and Japan, she toured theUnited States and given lecture recitals on Chinese piano music in 29 universities.She was the organizer of the First China International Piano Competition in 1994,acting as chairman of the jury. In summer 1995, she performed the Mozart A majorConcerto in London with the Britten-Pears Orchestra.
The past ten years, she has devoted herself extensively to the popularizationof the piano in China. She founded two Children's Piano Schools, organized competitionsand coordinated grade examinations, ran concert series of piano music for theBeijing Concert Hall and on China Central TV Station. She is the chief-editorof the piano magazine "Piano Artistry". The Chinese government awarded her thehonorary title "Best Cultural Worker", "National Best Educator" with the "MayFirst Labour Medal" .
Professor Andrzej Jasiński, Poland
Andrzej Jasiński
Born in 1936 in Częstochowa, where he graduated from the Secondary Music School in the class of Professor Stefania Borkowska. In 1952-59 he studied at the National Higher Music School in Katowice with Professor Władysława Markiewicz. In 1960-61 he studied in Paris under Professor Magda Tagliaferro. First Prize winner at the International Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona in 1961. Performed in Poland, in the countries of the former Soviet Union, in Europe, Japan, Latin America, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Since 1961 he has worked as a teacher at the Music Academy in Katowice. From 1972 until 1995 he was head of the Piano Department at that school. In 1979-82 he held the piano class at Hochschule für Music in Stuttgart. Mr. Jasiński was a juror at many piano competitions, among others in Warsaw, Brussels, Paris and Tokyo. Also held master courses in Poland and abroad (the International Summer Academy of Music "Mozarteum" in Salzburg, the Piano School in Italy).
Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky, USA
Yoheved Kaplinsky
Yoheved Kaplinsky is currently the Chairperson of the Piano Department at the Juilliard School in New York.
She began her musical career as a prizewinner in the J.S. Bach International Competition in Washington, D.C. A native of Israel, she studied with Ilona Vincze at the Tel Aviv Music Academy before entering the Juilliard School as a scholarship student of Irwin Freundlich. She holds a Master's and Doctoral degrees from Juilliard, as well as awards for scholastic and pianistic achievements. She continued her studies with Dorothy Taubman in New York.
Ms. Kaplinsky has appeared throughout the United States as a recitalist, in chamber music concerts and with orchestras, including performances in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington, D.C. Noted for her insight and understanding of piano technique, Ms. Kaplinsky has been in great demand for lectures and masterclasses in the U.S., Israel and the Far East.
She has served on the faculties of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and the Manhattan School of Music, and has been a member of the Juilliard piano faculty since 1993. She also teaches regularly at various summer festivals, including the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival in Maine, The Aspen Music Festival, the Tel Hai International Masterclasses in Israel, the Texas Conservatory for Young Artists, the Cliburn Institute and Pianofest in Long Island, New York.
Ms. Kaplinsky frequently adjudicates in international competitions, most recently the Cleveland, Rubinstein, Dublin, Cliburn and the Tchaikovsky competitions. In 2003, she received the Presidential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award.
Professor Vladimir Krainev, Germany
Vladimir Krainev
Vladimir Krainev is an outstanding pianist and professor of piano.
As a young child, his gift for music was discovered and developed by his teachers at the Kharkov music school. He continued his studies at the Central music school attached to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and later in the class of the great musician Henrich Neuhaus at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He graduated from the Conservatory and did a post-graduate course under the guidance of his late professor's son, an outstanding pianist himself, Stanislav Neuhaus.
After wining first prizes at international contests in Lisbon (Portugal), Leeds (England) and especially after his victory at the IY Tchaikovsky International Contest in Moscow (1970) his carrier as a pianist began. His performances with famous orchestras, eminent conductors and outstanding soloists all over the world have made Vladimir Krainev known as a great musician of our time.
Teaching music came as a natural continuation of his artistic activities. Presently Vladimir Krainev is a professor at the Higher School of Music and Theatre in Hanover (Germany). 29 young pianists from Russia and CIS, France, Germany, China, Korea and other countries study in his class. Many of his students are laureates of prestigious international competitions.
For many years Vladimir Krainev has been giving series of concerts called "Vladimir Krainev invites" at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His students as well as laureates of his competition for young pianists participate in these concerts side by side with outstanding musicians.
Professor Dominique Merlet, France
Dominique Merlet
Dominique Merlet, renowned professor, formerly at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris and now at the Geneva Conservatory, is an outstanding performer and musician of exceptional repute. He was a pupil of Roger-Ducasse, Nadia Boulanger and Louis Hiltbrand. Awarded three "1st Prize" at the Paris Conservatory and winner of the prestigious Geneva International Competition.
His performing career has taken him around the world in collaboration with noted conductors including Charles Munch, Paul Paray, Armin Jordan, Sergiu Comissiona. Dominique Merlet's recordings have won "Grand Prix du Disque" and "Diapason d' Or".
He gives frequent recitals, master-classes, and lecture recitals worldwide, and has a splendid legacy of students who themselves are laureates of major piano competitions. A return to facsimile manuscripts for interpretative matters brings a rare element of authenticity to his own performances and master-classes. He frequently participates at international piano juries, is an Honorary European President of EPTA as well as President of the Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Foundation. His impressive accomplishments have been rewarded by the French Ministery of Culture with the title of Officier des Arts et des Lettres.
Professor Sergio Perticaroli, Italy
Sergio Perticaroli
Sergio Perticaroli was born in Rome and educated at the Conservatory Santa Cecilia by professor Renzo Silvestri. Winning the First Prize at the Geneva International Piano Competition (1950) and winning the Busoni Prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano (1952) launched Maestro Perticaroli's performing career in Italy and Europe.
From 1954 Sergio Perticaroli performed numerous concerts in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, playing in the most prestigious music centers: La Scala di Milano, Berlin Philharmonic, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Tonhalle in Zurich, etc., and under the baton of famous conductors like Maazel, Celibidache, Abbado, Giulini, Jochum and others.
In 1959, as a result of an informal meeting with Aram Khachaturian in Cairo, Sergio Perticaroli embarked on a long concert tour of the Orient together with the famous composer performing his Piano Concerto and becoming subsequently one of the most celebrated pianists to ever play it. After his performance at the Academy of Santa Cecilia Sir John Barbirolli invited Sergio Perticaroli to make a concert tour of the most important cities of England under the baton of Maestro Barbirolli and Hallz Orchestra.
Maestro Perticaroli also is very active as pedagogue, heading the Piano Department of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and, since 1977, giving annual summer piano course in Salzburg's Mozarteum.
Professor Regina Smendzianka, Poland
Regina Smendzianka
Studied under the direction of Professor Henryk Sztompka. Prize-winner at the IV"' International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949. Made numerous radio and television recordings in Poland, Holland, Italy, Germany and Japan. Professor at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and head of the Piano Department. She was given the title of Honourable Professor of the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Holds courses of inter-pretation and delivers lectures in European and non-European countries, among others in Japan, Finland, Germany and Denmark. Is the recipient of many Polish and foreign orders, while also being prize-winner for her artis-tic and didactic activities. Performed in over 30 countries of Europe, both Americas, Near and Far East. On her initiative in 1988 was established the Regina Smendzianka Foundation.
Professor Jerzy Sulikowski, Poland
Jerzy Sulikowski
Studied in Katowice and Sopot with Professor Zbigniew Śliwiński, and in Paris with Professor Suzanne Roche i Vlado Perlemuter. First Prize winner at the International Music Competition in Geneva in 1967. Performed in many European countries, as well as in China, Cuba and in Japan. Professor at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz and Gdansk. He has also been a professor at the Musashino Music Academy in Tokyo for 5 years. Jerzy Sulikowski is invited as an instructor at the Summer Piano Courses, among others in Vienna and Duszniki-Zdrój. Among his students are many prize winners of national and international piano competitions. In 1996 Mr. Sulikowski initiated the resumption of the International Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz.
Professor Yuko Yamaoka, Japan
Yuko Yamaoka
Yuko Yamaoka was born in Fukuoka in western Japan. She began to have piano lessons in natural style of rendition from own mother at age of three. Later studied with Professor Yoichiro Miyake, Leo Sirota and Kazuko Yasukawa. At age of eight, played Concerto in A major, K. 488, by Mozart with Japan Radio Orchestra for overseas broadcast. At age of eleven, gave joint recital, and later performed solo with orchestras and chamber music ensembles, and in radio broadcasts. Won prize in 20th Japan Musical competition in 1951.
Decorate by French Government with chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1983 and Officier dans L'Ordre des Arts et des Letters in 1998, given Yokohama Cultural Award in 1990.
Yuko Yamaoka serves on the jury of many international competitions. She is also taking important responsibilities in educational and other social activities as member, Board of Education, Yokohama City (1996-2003); member of the board, the Yokohama City Foundation for the Promotion of Culture; Professor, Faculty of Music and Graduate School, Ferris Women's University; instructor, Toho Gakuen University and Junior College; board member, Japan Piano Teachers' Association; member of the board of trustees, International Music Exchange Association; board member, Franco-Japanese Society of Music; president, executive committee, Yokohama International Piano Concert, and representative, Yamate Geteza Piano Festival.
